Today I’m going to share with you tips on how to make your closet stylish, impactful and sustainable. I use these principles not only in my work with clients, but also for my own closet.
A rational closet should consist of clothes that fit together perfectly, forming sets, and each piece suits you in color, texture and pattern. Let’s look at the secrets of forming such a closet.
Secret №1: the ratio between tops and bottoms
Supreme in the closet should be 3-4 times more than the bottoms. Since it is they who create the impression of a new set. To do this, they should be different in texture, pattern and color. If the closet is selected in accordance with your coloring of appearance, then there will be no problems with the set. For example, combining this blue skirt with three different tops, we will get 3 harmonious sets.
Secret №2: think in terms of ensembles
Strive to create a finished look. To do this, use accessories and layering, or both. For example, my top would look boring if I didn’t accessorize it. You can also accessorize it with a belt or use layering by wearing it under a jacket or cardigan.
Secret №3: 70/30 ratio
When I work with clients, I meet two extremes. One seeks to make the closet as neutral as possible, choosing simple things. As a result, it looks dull and impersonal. Or, on the contrary, each item in the closet is unique in design, pattern and texture. Such things are very difficult to combine with each other. The more complex the thing in design, the more difficult it is to create a set with it. The ideal formula looks like this: 70% of simple laconic things and 30% of accent things. For example, I will wear this interesting skirt with the simplest things that will serve as a beautiful background.
Secret № 4: color combination
Don’t merge the whole set into one color. Strive to create such sets, in which light shades are combined with darker ones, and bright colors with muted ones. Such a set will look winning and spectacular. For example, a turquoise or berry shade top will suit these neutral beige pants.
Secret № 5: individuality in the little things
Do not neglect such accessories as necklaces, belts, scarves, bags of interesting colors and styles. They will make your image stylish and unusual.
